Summer’s gone, temperatures are now friendlier, so it’s the perfect time for outdoor adventures. While we’re lucky to have tons of nearby great hikes and escapes year-round, this time is extra special. Why? Because the hot springs trails are officially back, and this specific route just reopened last week – it’s waiting for you!
The Arizona Hot Springs Trail
Its location in a volcanic area gives it a truly unique, rugged beauty. Keep an eye out for cool desert flora on the way, like ground cherry, rabbit brush, and rock nettle.
Unsurprisingly, the terrain is dominated by volcanic rock and ash, mixed with granite boulders that have washed down from the Black Mountains. This spot is a genuine natural wonderland. The water you’ll be soaking in is heated by the Earth’s natural geothermal conditions, rising to the surface through fractures in the rock.
The spring discharges at a steady rate of 30 to 50 gallons per minute, with temperatures holding beautifully between 111 and 120 degrees Fahrenheit – pure bliss!
Please keep in mind not to disturb this beautiful wonderland. Do not interfere with, or attempt to, stop the springs.
The hike

As wonderful as this trail is, it’s worth noting that it’s not the easiest. It’s 5 miles out-and-back, or 5.69 miles round trip Arizona Hot Springs trail loop – with includes the Arizona Hot Springs trail and the White Rock Trail. For the latter, you need to go down a 20-foot ladder. You’ll encounter a 750-foot elevation change and some steep scrambling. It’s a great adventure! But not one for beginners.
Lake Mead National Recreation Area
Centering around the magnificent Lakes Mead and Mohave, this recreation area offers a stunning blend of water adventure and desert terrain. These two vast lakes are famous for providing some of the finest sport fishing in the country. Adventure lovers flock to the open waters for boating and water skiing, while those seeking a chill weekend can enjoy peaceful kayaking or canoeing along the shoreline.
