It’s the first time the esteemed publication has ever named a Vice President-elect for the title.
If nothing else, 2020 has been a record-breaking year. And Time Magazine has just added to the list with its naming of President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris as 2020’s Person of the Year.
Now, not only is Harris the nation’s first woman and woman of color to become vice president, she will also be the first-ever vice president to be named Time Magazine’s Person of the Year. The title has been held by many presidents, in fact every single one that’s been elected to office since FDR, but never a VP.
Among those on the list Biden and Harris were selected from are President Donald Trump, frontline health care workers and Dr. Anthony Fauci, as well as the movement for racial justice.
In the NBC broadcast about the feature, Time Magazine’s editor-in-chief Edward Felsenthal discussed the publication’s choice. “The Biden-Harris ticket represents something historic,” he said.
“Person of the Year is not just about the year that was but about where we’re headed, and the next four years is going to be an enormous test of them, and all of us, to see whether they can bring about the unity they promised.”

2020’s Guardians of the Year include Porche Bennett-bey, Assa Traoré and the fight for racial justice, as well as frontline health workers and Dr. Anthony Fauci.
K-pop star BTS took the title of Entertainer of the Year, while LeBron James was named Athlete of the Year and Eric Yuan Time’s Businessperson of the Year.
