We love Vegas year-round, it’s hard not to – this city never sleeps, never takes a break, and it’s definitely never dull. But we gotta admit…the summer heat is hard to beat! Hiding away in cool museums, chilling at one of the many pools or day clubs, and always avoiding direct sunlight are all good ideas. Moreover, we’re blessed to be in Nevada, home to some of the most amazing nature reserves. No plans for this weekend? How about a quick and cooling nature escape? After years of anticipation, Cave Lake is back.
Cave Lake State Park
This beloved local spot is finally back, after being closed since 2019, to accommodate some major dam repairs. The project is now complete, and the lake is actually spilling over ahead of schedule – which means, you can once again enjoy kayaking, swimming or fishing in this absolutely beautiful mountain setting. Cave Lake State Park is located just 14 miles southeast of Ely.
The perfect weekend in nature
Escaping the city summer heat for a day is great, but making it a weekend is even better. There is so much to explore here that it would be a shame to leave it undiscovered. And let’s be honest – we all need a deeper connection with nature. Cave Lake has 2 campgrounds that have also been newly renovated, which means you’ll find clean toilets, showers, potable water, and everything else you need for the perfect getaway.
The hikes around here are spectacular, so if you enjoy taking a stroll, don’t miss them. Love adventure? Grab your mountain bike and explore the area with a touch of adrenaline. However, if you’d just like to chill around – it’s still the perfect spot. Whether you wanna lay in a boat or go for a nice swim, everything is possible. And who knows? You may even spot a rare bird or some of the wildlife roaming around Cave Lake.
