Great news for all stargazing enthusiasts! After an April delay, Nevada’s first-ever Cosmos in the Desert: Dark Skies Festival is back, and it’s lighting up Lahontan like never before. Well, actually…keeping it dark.
The event is set beneath the famously dark skies of Lahontan State Recreation Area. It’s an immersive, one-night-only event, taking place on August 16, at Beach 3. The magic kicks off at 8 PM and continues until midnight. With no light pollution, red lights only, and plenty of glow attire, the festival invites explorers and curious minds to reconnect with the cosmos.

Lahontan, a Nevada gem

Lahontan State Recreation Area has some of the darkest skies in the region. That’s why it’s the perfect location for astronomy and astrophotography events. The park’s low light pollution allows visitors to spot celestial wonders, such as the Andromeda Galaxy and the Orion Nebula, all with the naked eye.
