Get your leashes ready – East Las Vegas is about to get a brand-new spot for its four-legged residents! The city just hosted a big groundbreaking celebration for the new East Las Vegas Family Dog Park on October 8, marking the start of this project coming to life. Ward 3 Councilwoman Olivia Diaz was there to kick off the celebration at the park’s future home, on 4484 E. Washington Ave., right next to the existing East Las Vegas Family Park.
What’s the bark about?
This isn’t just a patch of grass, but the ultimate spot for both you and your four-legged best friend. Plans include:
- Three separate, fenced-in dog runs (perfect for pups of all sizes)
- Shade structures to keep everyone cool in the desert heat
- Benches and seating for the human chaperones
- Doggy waterers to keep the pups hydrated
- Landscaping, lighting, and walkways to make it a top-tier destination
A much-needed spot
This project has been a long time coming. Councilwoman Olivia Diaz shared that many families in the area have been asking for a safe, dog-friendly place for their pets.
“I am thrilled that this project will now be in the construction phase,” Diaz said, adding that it’s “one step closer to a wonderful dog park for our residents and furry loved ones to enjoy.”
Project details
JNJ Engineering Construction is the team who will build the park, which has a budget of just over $1.6 million from the city’s general fund. And don’t worry about your commute – the city has confirmed that no traffic disruptions are expected during construction. While the groundbreaking is happening now, residents (and their good boys and girls) will have to wait just a bit longer to play. The park is expected to officially open its gates in July 2026.
