Sphere Studios has just announced The Rocky Horror Picture Show at Sphere!
The 1975 cult classic, starring Tim Curry, Susan Sarandon, and Barry Bostwick, is getting the full Sphere treatment, with Sphere Studios using its advanced entertainment technology to enhance the original film for the venue’s iconic wraparound screen. The new show is expected to open in 2027.
The announcement marks Sphere’s second major film viewing experience, following The Wizard of Oz at Sphere, which has already surpassed $400 million in ticket sales and sold over 3 million tickets.
Jim Dolan, Executive Chairman and CEO of Sphere Entertainment, said the project is a natural fit for the venue: “Since The Rocky Horror Picture Show premiered in 1975, it redefined audience participation and became a cultural phenomenon. With Sphere, we have the opportunity to take that spirit of immersion to an entirely new level.”

Will it be like the original film?
Yes and no. Sphere Studios will enhance the original 1975 film using its advanced immersive technology, so think the same treatment given to The Wizard of Oz, but make it Rocky Horror.
Will there still be audience participation?
Nothing has been confirmed, but given that audience participation is half the heart of Rocky Horror, we’d be surprised if doing the Time Warp wasn’t on the agenda.
