Great news, Vegas! Get ready to welcome Summerlin Studios, a brand-new entertainment powerhouse coming soon to the suburbs of Sin City. With industry giants Sony and Warner Bros. joining forces after previously backing rival ventures, this collaboration is set to be legendary for our city.
Summerlin Studios would once again confirm Vegas as the place to be when it comes to the exciting world of entertainment. Spanning approximately 30 acres, it is part of a bigger complex with bars, restaurants, shopping opportunities, and more.
However, the project is entirely dependent on the passage and approval of Assembly Bill 238, a film studio tax credit legislation in Nevada.
So will it happen? We’ll have to wait and see. The state of Nevada currently offers around $10 million a year in production incentives. This project would need $80 million in film tax credits, provided by the “Nevada Studio Infrastructure Jobs and Workforce Training Act”. In the future, an additional $400 million would have to be raised in capital investments.
“We are excited to work with Sony Pictures and with Howard Hughes to bring large- and small -scale film and TV productions to Nevada,” said Simon Robinson, chief operating officer of Warner Bros. Discovery.
If successful, the project should have a huge economical impact, and open over 15,000 jobs. This is much needed in a time when Nevada still has the highest unemployment rate in U.S.. It will also put Sin City on the culture map for our future actors, directors, editors, and anyone who’s dreaming of a future in the world of film and television.
