Book lovers in the valley have a new reason to gather and share their favorite hobby in a very chill environment. In a city known for its bright lights and constant noise, a quiet revolution is taking over local cafes. It’s the perfect outing for anyone who loves literature but hates homework! It’s called the Silent Book Club, and if you’ve been looking for a reason to get out of the house without the pressure of making small talk, this is your designated “Introvert Happy Hour”.
What’s a Silent Book Club?
The concept is simple, yet brilliant. Unlike traditional book clubs, there is no assigned reading and no scramble to finish a 44958359800-page dense novel by the weekend. You can also rest easy knowing no one is going to quiz you on character quirks. Instead, you just show up, grab a coffee or a cocktail, and settle in with whatever you’re currently reading. Whether it’s a spicy romance, a graphic novel, a thriller, or an audiobook, all formats are welcome. How cool is that?!
How does a typical meetup look like?
Usually, you arrive and spend the first 30 minutes settling in, ordering a drink, and maybe saying a quick hello to a neighbor. You could also share a couple of thoughts about the book you’re reading. Then, complete silence – as the name suggests – falls over the group for a dedicated hour where everyone reads together. It transforms the solitary act of reading into a cozy, communal experience. Afterwards, you can stay to chat and swap recommendations, or simply head home – no strings attached.
The Silent Book Club is the ultimate way to tackle your to-be-read pile while finding community, all without the social exhaustion.
Where can you find the Silent Book Club in Vegas?
The Las Vegas ‘chapter’ (as the groups are called) mainly gathers in 2 locations:
- Springs Cafe at the Springs Preserve: often hosting the standard “introvert happy hour” event, Silent Book Club brunches, book swaps, and much more. This spot offers a stunning backdrop of nature and history, so it’s the perfect destination.
- Henderson: for those in the southeast valley, meetups frequently happen at cozy spots like The Coffee Press or Natural 21.
The events are not limited to these spots, so keep an eye on their Insta profile for the latest news.
How often are the events taking place?
You’ll usually find a typical meet-up once a month. Besides, there are other events such as book coloring sessions, plenty of brunches, night-owl meetups, and more.
The next events take place:
- The Coffee Press in Henderson, 5 – 7 PM on Thursday, February 12. More info here.
- Natural 21 Game Lounge in Henderson, 6 – 8 PM on Wednesday, February 25. You can RSVP here.
