Tool fans – sounds like it’s time to start saving those pennies, and get mentally ready for what would be a legendary announcement. In a recent update that has sent the metal community into a frenzy, drummer Danny Carey has confirmed that Tool is actively planning a massive 2027. The plans for next year include both a new studio album and a potential residency at the iconic Vegas Sphere.
Is Tool coming to Sphere in 2027?
Speaking with the Spiral Out Network earlier this week, Carey revealed that the band is hard at work on the follow-up to 2019’s ‘Fear Inoculum’. While the band is famous for their…pretty slow….creative pace, the band offered a concrete goal: a 2027 release. However, the real bombshell was his confirmation that the band is in talks to debut this new material at the world’s most immersive venue.
“We’re hoping when we release the new record, maybe do a stint at the Sphere, ’cause I think we’re the perfect band for that,” Carey said. “We’ve been talking to those guys.”
An iconic experience

Knowing what the Sphere is and can do, we have to say: he’s not wrong. Tool’s visually intense, psychedelic live shows seem perfect for the that 160,000-square-foot LED wraparound screen.
But don’t get toooooo excited just yet. Tool was quick to temper expectations with the reality of such a production. He noted that the preparation is pretty intense and described the residency as a “very expensive endeavor.” In other words, the whole adventure would require a significant number of shows to turn a profit.
If the plans hold, 2027 could mark the end of an 8-year wait for new music. And for all that to be delivered in the most mind blowing format possible – at Sphere – would be truly magical. Start spiraling now! Oh, and meanwhile…check out these exciting upcoming Vegas residencies.
