If you’ve ever tried to power-walk from the Bellagio to Caesars, you know the ultimate Vegas gamble isn’t played in the casinos – it’s trying to navigate around a bachelorette party taking selfies on the sidewalk.
But starting June 1st, 2026, the phenomenon of being trapped behind the tourists will officially be a thing of the past.
Fast lanes are coming to the Vegas Strip
The city of Las Vegas has just announced the implementation of “Fast Lanes” and “Slow Lanes” up and down the Strip. The trial program aims to separate the serious walkers (a.k.a. the locals) from the sightseers – and it even comes with a price tag if you break the rules.
How it works
Soon enough, we’ll be looking at 2 distinct zones:
- The Fast Lane: Located on the inside half of the sidewalk, this lane is strictly reserved for those walking 3.5 miles per hour or faster. It’s designed for locals, or tourists who just really need to get to their dinner reservations.
- The Slow Lane: Located closest to the street, this lane is for the quintessential Vegas experience. Wanna stare at the Bellagio Fountains? Trying to navigate the Strip in high heels? Need to take a photo with a street performer? This is your lane.
The $5 penalty
The most controversial part of the new initiative? The enforcement, which even comes with a small price to pay.
Hyper-sensitive pedestrian speedometers will be installed on the city’s light poles to monitor the flow of foot traffic during this trial. If you drop below 3.5 mph in the Fast Lane – or worse, just stop completely – you’ll be slapped with an immediate $5 citation. Time really is money when it comes to Vegas, huh?
There are also fines for fast walkers caught aggressively weaving through the Slow Lane – so it goes both ways.
So next time you hit the Strip, remember to lace up your walking shoes, keep your head down, and maintain your speed!
P.S.: we reached out to the city of Las Vegas for comments and they said “APRIL FOOLS”!
