Heads up, Vegas! Your next Uber pickup might look a lot more like a sci-fi movie. Zoox, the Amazon-backed autonomous vehicle developer, is officially teaming up with Uber to bring its custom-built robotaxis to the popular ride-hailing app.
What’s Zoox and how does it work?
Forget everything you know about a traditional car. Zoox’s futuristic, all-electric shuttles were built entirely from the ground up for passengers – not drivers. That means you won’t find a steering wheel, gas pedals, or even a driver’s seat inside. Instead, the car features a spacious cabin where up to 4 passengers sit comfortably, but differently: facing each other. It’s a design focused on relaxing, chatting with friends, and enjoying the ride while advanced AI navigates the busy streets.
Safe to say – it’s a different experience.
Zoox is coming to Vegas
Starting this summer, Uber users in Vegas will have the chance to be paired with one of these unique driverless pods, for certain trips. Up until now, Zoox has been testing its vehicles and offering public rides through its own platform. While the Zoox app isn’t going anywhere, this new partnership puts the technology into the hands of users who already rely on Uber.
As expected, the rollout won’t stop in Nevada. While Vegas gets the first taste of this integration, the companies already have their sights set on expanding the service to L.A. by mid-2027. The future of transportation is officially here – love it or not – and it’s picking you up soon.
Whether you’re heading to a Sphere show with friends, checking out a museum, or doing a bar crawl filled with cold beers and cocktails…driving home isn’t something you need to worry about. You also don’t need to worry about the driver.
