Any Vegas local knows AREA15 as one of the city’s main entertainment spots, with VR experiences, karaoke nights, arcades, Meow Wolf’s Omega Mart, and more. But soon, it’s about to get even better. The district is expanding, bringing new experiences and spaces. One of these is a brand-new cocktail and dining experience, inside a Boeing 747.
The Boeing story
If you think you’ve seen this plane before, it’s probably because it isn’t newly created for AREA15. It was actually one of Burning Man’s most iconic pieces. It measures 150 feet in length and 60 feet in width, and it can host over 1,300 guests.
First envisioned by the Big Imagination Foundation as the world’s largest mobile art car, the Boeing 747 became a blend of innovation and artistry. At the festival, it offered attendees an immersive, otherworldly space, where original elements, like the sound equipment, remain fully preserved.
The Boeing 747 was purchased by the late Zappos CEO Tony Hsieh. He brought it to Las Vegas with plans to turn it into a party venue. In 2022, Joshua Levine, the curator of AREA15’s open-air Art Island gallery, acquired it.
As the model is being retired from commercial flights, this is one of the only publicly accessible Boeing 747s in the whole world! Therefore, it’s important to repurpose the piece of art — and we’re definitely not complaining about its new use. We love a cocktail in a unique setting. The plane adds to the venue’s mission to spark curiosity, creativity, and wonder in every guest experience.
Plans for AREA15
When asked about the purchase and future plans for the Boeing, Winston Fisher, CEO of AREA15, said: “The iconic journey that this aircraft has taken symbolized the monumental expression of the fusion between art, technology and experiential entertainment that defines AREA15. Once the centerpiece of the world’s most avant-garde festival, this installation will now be permanently integrated into the AREA15 ecosystem, offering an entirely new way to experience nightlife and events in Las Vegas.”
