When you think of Vegas, you don’t usually picture sprawling vineyards, epic mountain vistas, and a sophisticated wine-tasting experience. You’d expect to find that tucked away in a European countryside. But just a 1-hour drive from the Strip, Charleston Peak Winery is proving that anything is possible in the desert.
A sophisticated desert oasis

If you’re looking to trade the chaotic energy of the city for a Mediterranean-style afternoon, you need to make the drive to Pahrump, Nevada. This 9-acre estate at the base of Charleston Peak completely flips the script on a Vegas vacation.
Walking into Charleston Peak Winery feels like you’ve taken a detour into a completely different region. Originally founded in 1989 (and formerly known as Pahrump Valley Vineyards), the newly reimagined estate offers an atmosphere that is intentionally slow and elegant.
There’s no rush here. The estate features a lush landscape that contrasts with the surrounding Mojave. You can settle into comfortable lounge seating inside the tasting room or head out to the scenic patio to take in the mountain views. It’s calm, upscale, and incredibly welcoming – giving off the distinct feeling of a hidden European villa rather than a venue just an hour from the Vegas.
High-desert winemaking
Growing grapes in the Mojave is not for the faint of heart, but winemaker Steven Bowen and the team have mastered the terroir. The result is a collection of locally crafted wines steeped in Nevada’s surprising winemaking heritage.
The winery boasts a few major bragging rights, including being the first in the state to produce a sparkling wine entirely from locally grown grapes.
Be sure to try their signature Symphony White, the bright Rosé of Zinfandel, or the complex Amargosa Red Blend. Their Malbec is also a standout: smooth, rich, and perfectly balanced.
The tasting experience

The main attraction is the guided wine tasting, led by knowledgeable staff who bring the stories behind the varietals to life. If you want to elevate the experience, try:
- Artisan pairings: wine and chocolate tasting, featuring artisan chocolates sourced from Las Vegas’ own Jean-Marie Auboine Chocolatier.
- Bistro fare: the winery serves a curated menu of bistro fare, from salads and wings to sandwiches and appetizers.
- Behind the scenes: winery tours are available that include exclusive barrel tastings.
