Located in the heart of the Las Vegas Arts District, this is far more than a traditional museum; it’s a deep dive into his stunts, stories, and spirit.
Who was Evel Knievel?
Robert Craig Knievel was born in Butte, Montana. He turned his love of risk into a legendary career. After earning the nickname ‘Evel Knievel’ following a 1956 arrest, he created and managed his own motorcycle stunt show, performing daring jumps over cars, trucks, and other obstacles. He was constantly raising the stakes to attract bigger crowds.
His breakthrough came on December 31, 1967, when he attempted to jump the Caesars Palace fountains in Las Vegas. Although the stunt ended in a devastating crash that left him in a coma for 29 days, footage of the attempt made him a national sensation.
Throughout the late 1960s and early 1970s, Knievel became famous for increasingly dangerous motorcycle jumps, often returning to perform even bigger stunts despite suffering numerous serious injuries. His fearless determination to follow through on every challenge cemented his reputation as one of history’s greatest stunt performers.
Evel Knievel Experience – more than another tourist stop
The journey of this attraction is a story in itself. It began when collector Lathan McKay acquired Knievel’s famous Mack truck, Big Red. He partnered with Mike Patterson, whose team at Historic Harley-Davidson restored it. This collaboration sparked the creation of the original Evel Knievel Museum in Topeka. To share Knievel’s legacy with a global audience, the team expanded and relocated the acclaimed collection to its new permanent home. Welcome to Las Vegas!
