It’s no secret Las Vegas is HOT
We do find ourselves smack dab in the middle of the Mojave Desert and are less than 100 miles away from Death Valley, the hottest place on Earth! The summer months can be especially hot thanks to heat waves. Vegas can reach temperatures over 110°F, our hottest recorded temperature being 118°F! This is why we’ve put together this cool list of places that will hopefully refresh you in these summer days. Don’t forget your sunscreen and drink plenty of water!
1. Dive into the city’s best pools
Vegas is synonymous with its great pool parties, and what better time to cool off than now? We recommend you skip the tanning beds and dive straight into the water, but not before applying plenty of sunscreen! We’ve made a list of 18 beautiful pools to visit in Vegas right here.
2. Mount Charleston
Though it might sound odd to be out in the sun to cool off, it’s usually 20 to 30 degrees cooler there during the summer instead of in the city. There are plenty of hiking trails and great places to set up a beautiful picnic. If you’re feeling up to it, there are also rental cabins for a weekend getaway.
3.Nevada State Museum
Museums can be incredibly varied, but they all seem to have one thing in common, great A/C! If you are looking for an activity to keep you away from the sun, why not visit one of the several Vegas museums? The Nevada State Museum at Springs Preserve has an outstanding permanent exhibit about the history of Nevada dating back millions of years ago! You’ll learn how geology shaped the Great Basin and about the plant and animals that inhabit the state. You’ll also see Nevada’s state fossil, the ichthyosaur, and hear the story of Native Americans, pioneers, miners, railroaders, ranchers, and entrepreneurs!
Location: 309 S. Valley View Blvd, Las Vegas
4. Visit A Library
Another sun-free activity could be to hit up your local library. You can research something you’ve “been meaning to,” read an interesting book or simply scroll through TikTok in an aesthetic location ( we promise we won’t tell). We recommend The Windmill Library.
Location: 7060 W Windmill Ln, Las Vegas
5. Gamble At A Casino
When in Vegas… Our Casinos are a pretty obvious choice that can sometimes be overlooked. But a hot summer day is a perfect moment to escape into these A/C heavens. A good strategy is to play on the penny or nickel slots. That way you can relax and spend at least a few hours playing ’till your heart’s content.
6.AREA15
Area 15 is a psychedelic playground that will keep you far away from the summer heat! This immersive wonderland is just minutes away from The Strip. It has several incredible and mind-bending experiences, such as virtual realities and ax throwing, for starters! One of Area 15’s most popular attractions is Meow Wolf’s Omega Mart. We recommend heading straight to the refrigerated section!
Location: 3215 S Rancho Dr
7. Grand Canal Shoppes
The Venetian is one of Vegas’ best and most iconic hotels. So, it’s no surprise the shopping in their Grand Canal is lovely! It features over 160 stores with dozens of luxury brands. The beautiful cobblestones and the painted ceilings with blue skies and perfect clouds will transport you to a piazza in Venice, though you’ll luckily be indoors! We can stroll around, shop, and grab lunch or dinner. However, the best way to cool off might be to go on an indoor gondola ride and take it all in.
Location: 3355 S Las Vegas
8.Ice Skating at City National Arena
Vegas in the summer is the time to hit the ice skating rink! The City National Arena is a fantastic place to literally chill out. If you don’t enjoy skating, you can still watch a hockey game and later grab a bite to eat in their restaurant.
Location: 1550 Pavilion Center Dr. Las Vegas
9.Ellis Island Casino And Brewery
Who doesn’t love beer? An excursion to the Ellis Island Casino and Brewery. is a beautiful and creative way to avoid the Nevada heat. You can try mouthwatering food alongside perfectly refreshing craft beer.
Location: 4178 Koval Lane, Las Vegas
10. Ice Cream at Luv.It Frozen Custard
Finally, after your refreshing activities, a must on this list is to grab your favorite ice cream! There are so many delicious places to grab a scoop in Vegas; however, we recommend Luv-It Frozen Custard. This indulgent spot has been enticing locals since 1973. They serve up truly mouthwatering treats, such as their Western, a hot fudge, hot caramel sundae topped with buttered, roasted, salted pecans! Yum!
Location: 505 E Oakey Blvd, Las Vegas
