If you happened to be looking at the Las Vegas skyline last night, you might have thought the Empire had finally arrived. And it kinda did! In a massive takeover for CES 2026, the LEGO Group and Sphere Studios transformed our iconic venue into a “brick-built” Death Star. This is to celebrate a major leap in play technology!
What just happened?

In a world-first for the giant screen, the experience was fully interactive. Fans – including New York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart – stepped into a physical, LEGO-themed X-Wing cockpit on the ground to play through the legendary “Trench Run.” As they piloted their ships, the action unfolded live across the massive screen. It all culminated in the ultimate goal: blowing up the Death Star over the Vegas Strip.
What does it all mean?

The spectacle was designed to showcase LEGO SMART Play™, which the company is calling ‘the biggest evolution to their building system since the invention of the Minifigure’. For context, that was back in 1978.
While LEGO is keeping some of the finer technical details under wraps, the goal is simple: to make your builds come to life. By packing world-first technology into the bricks themselves, LEGO sets will now be able to react and interact with builders in real-time. Fittingly, the technology is debuting with the Star Wars universe. The promise? A “galaxy that plays back.”
When and where can we get it?
Got your attention? If you’re ready to bring the SMART Brick home – and we know we are – the first wave of LEGO Star Wars All-in-One sets will be available for pre-order starting January 9th. A full global launch is scheduled for March 1st, 2026.
