When we think of the Strip, a few things come to mind: resorts, casinos, tourists, rooftops, bars, and a never-ending party. However, before all that, when Vegas looked a bit different, The Little Church of the West also called the Strip home – and it still does nowadays, proudly holding the title of ‘the oldest existing structure’ there.
Vegas as a wedding destination
The Little Church of the West in Las Vegas has been tying the knot since 1941. It was once part of the Last Frontier Hotel, but it wasn’t just another chapel – it was the first in Vegas designed from the ground up for weddings. Other chapels had been converted from old buildings, but this one was built to catch the booming wedding crowd.
As the town grew with the population boom caused by the construction of near by Hoover Dam, Fremont Street got more and more casinos, and a new era began in Vegas. Besides, Nevada’s easy marriage laws helped put Vegas on the map as the marriage capital of the world.
Meanwhile rules have changed around the world – but the Little Church of the West still offers a hassle-free, memorable wedding experience, which attracts Americans and worldwide visitors alike.
History of the Little Church of the West

Originally built as part of the Last Frontier Hotel, located on a stretch of highway that would one day become the famous Las Vegas Strip, the Little Church of the West upholds the heritage of Las Vegas with its unique architecture.
It’s a freestanding replica of an old west mining town church. The chapel looks much the same today as when it was first built. Sure, minor changes have been made, but nothing drastic. It’s even listed on the National Registry of Historic Places, the only building on the Strip with that distinction.
Celebrity weddings
Many famous people tied the knot at this impressive, historic church. The list includes beloved names such as Judy Garland, David Cassidy, Richard Gere, Noel Gallagher, Chris Evans, Mickey Rooney and more.
Getting married at, or visiting, the Little Church of the West

Yep, you can still get married at this iconic spot. Choose the chapel, the garden, the Las Vegas sign, or Harley Davidson…and starting declaring your love! Go with a traditional minister, a classic Elvis impersonator, a mini Elvis impersonator, or other fun choices.
You can also visit the Little Church of the West for a self guided chapel tour. You may, however, need to wait for a wedding ceremony to finish. Make sure to visit the chapel office before entering the chapel area.
Given the historic importance – the oldest existing structure on the Strip, and the only one registered in the National Registry of Historic Places – we definitely think it’s worth a stop.
