When people think of Vegas, politeness or kindness may not be the first thing on their minds (though we know our community best!). However, a surprising new study reveals that Nevada ranks 49 out of 50 when it comes to the US most foul-mouthed states. Who’s number 50? Equally shocking, New York.
America’s sweariest states
This study was conducted online, looking at each state’s subreddit. Researchers at NFT Plazas analyzed thousands of Reddit posts from state-specific online communities over the past six months. They tallied up the usage of 11 specific curse words – we won’t list them here, but think of the classics.
The absolute winner, with 2,505 curse words recorded in its subreddit, is Texas. Close enough ranks New Jersey, with 2,389.
In the middle, we see more surprises: the mid-west comes to say hi! States like Ohio, Wisconsin, and even Minnesota-nice made the top 10.
In for more surprises? Even the island life doesn’t have an effect on people’s online vocabulary…and so, Hawaii also makes the list.
The least sweary states
As mentioned, Nevada ranked 49 on this top 50 list, and we were only beaten by New York.
Right behind us ranks North Dakota, on spot 48.
Really?
Of course, the results don’t necessarily reflect everyday life or behavior. It could be that New York’s, or Nevada’s subreddit isn’t as active, or that Reddit is less popular in these states.
Even so, we love a pleasant surprise, and it was great to see Nevada’s name in such a nice spot – keep it PG, everyone! We have a reputation of “Nevada-nice” now.
