Goodbye 2025, hello 2026! Whether you choose to spend this magical night at someone’s house, on the Strip, or at one of the many fabulous NYE parties going on in Vegas, it’s important to plan ahead on how to get there (and back), safely. Based on the official holiday service updates from the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada and the Las Vegas Monorail, here are the public transit hours on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.
Public transit hours on New Year’s Eve – Wednesday, December 31, 2025

Free rides
RTC is offering free rides on all fixed-route transit from 6 PM on New Year’s Eve until 9 AM on New Year’s Day. You can board any bus during this window without a pass or fare.
Festive discounts
Monorail Locals Discount: Nevada residents can purchase $1 single-ride tickets at customer service booths (10 AM – 11 PM) with a valid Nevada ID.
General Service
- RTC Buses: All transit routes will operate on a Saturday schedule.
- The Deuce (Strip & Downtown): This route operates 24/7 and will run with high frequency. Keep in mind it will be subject to heavy detours due to the closure of the Strip.
- Las Vegas Monorail: Will operate continuously for 43 hours straight, starting at 7 AM on December 31st through 2 AM on January 2nd.
Strip closures & detours
Las Vegas Boulevard (The Strip) typically begins closing to vehicle traffic around 6:30 PM. A full closure between Sahara Ave and Tropicana Ave happens by 8 PM.
Because the Strip is closed to vehicles, the Deuce and other routes (like the 201 and 202) will move to parallel streets like Koval Lane and Sammy Davis Jr. Drive.
Public transit hours on New Year’s Day – Thursday, January 1, 2026
Free rides end
The free ride period ends at 9 AM on January 1st. After this time, standard fares apply for all RTC services.
General Service
- RTC Buses: All routes will operate on a Sunday schedule.
- The Deuce: Continues its regular 24/7 service.
- Las Vegas Monorail: Operates 24 hours (as part of the 43-hour holiday run).
Good-to-know for Vegas locals
- Free parking for up to 7 days is available at the South Strip Transit Terminal (SSTT) and the Centennial Hills Transit Center. This is a great way to avoid the heavy traffic and high parking fees at Strip resorts.
- If you are taking the bus to the Strip festivities, remember that glass bottles, metal containers, strollers, and large bags (bigger than 12x12x6 inches) are prohibited on the Strip from 6 PM on NYE to 6 AM on NYD.
