If you’ve ever stopped by Red Rock Canyon and snapped a photo with the big landmark sign, you might notice something’s changed. The popular photo spot has been moved from its old spot to a new location. This is all part of a broader effort to improve visitor safety and access.
What changed?

Before, the sign used to sit just off Nevada State Route 159, basically right beside the road. It made for a dramatic backdrop, but it also created hazards: people pulling off, taking pictures, and doing U-turns on a hill.
Under the new setup, the sign has been relocated a couple of miles east of the original position. It is now near Calico Basin and the visitor center. The new location is paired with the construction of a dedicated parking area. That way, people can stop safely and take pictures without risking being almost on the highway.
This move is part of Phase 1 of the larger Red Rock Legacy Trail project. This is designed to add a paved trail, deceleration lanes, and other safety improvements for visitors, cyclists and hikers.
Work in progress
The sign is currently covered while construction finishes on the new parking lot and facilities. The full trail project (connecting Summerlin to Calico and beyond) is many phases out and still unfolding.
To sum up
The iconic Red Rock Canyon sign has been shifted to a safer, more accessible location, tied into a broader set of upgrades to trails and parking. So if you go out there, expect a new photo-op set-up that’s better for both the picture and your safety.
