Southwest to start direct flights between Vegas and Mexico
Southwest Airlines will launch its first international flights from Vegas. A nonstop service between LAS and Cancun, Puerto Vallarta, and Los Cabos (San Jose del Cabo) starts on June 4, 2026. Say goodbye to layovers, missed connections, or extra planning – you’ll get from the Strip to a beach bar with perfect Margs in just a couple of hours.
Southwest was already flying to Cancun from several major U.S. cities, like Houston, Chicago ,Dallas, Denver, and more. The new Vegas service will further expand that network, giving travelers more easy ways to reach Mexico’s breathtaking coast.
Summer schedule for flights to Mexico
While details are definitely still being ironed, here’s what we know:
- Southwest intends to offer daily flights between Las Vegas and Los Cabos.
- The plan is to operate 5-day-a-week service to Cancun, Thursday through Monday.
- Weekend only flights to Puerto Vallarta, most probably taking place on Saturdays and Sundays.
According to a local report, the routes would feature morning departures from Vegas. Flight time would be aprox. 2 hours and 40 minutes to Los Cabos, around 4 and a half hours to Cancun, and about 3 hours to Puerto Vallarta.
Americans in Mexico

American travelers play a huge role in tourism along Mexico’s coast, especially around Cancun, which is consistently the top international beach destination for US visitors. Millions of Americans fly into Cancun each year, drawn by easy nonstop flights (which we now have – yay!), big resorts, and year-round warm weather. The Mexican Caribbean regularly welcomes well over 20 million visitors annually, and Americans account for a large share of that. Even as travel trends shift, the US remains the backbone of Cancun’s tourism economy. See you at the beach?
