The world’s greatest venue is expanding, and the East Coast is its new second home! Sphere Entertainment, in collaboration with the State of Maryland and Prince George’s County, has just announced plans to bring a new Sphere venue to National Harbor. Nestled right along the Potomac, just a quick 15-minute drive from D.C., this new location promises to be the intimate sibling to the viral Vegas attraction.
Sphere – from Vegas to D.C.

While the original Sphere holds about 20,000 people, this new iteration is designed with a smaller scale model in mind, seating around 6,000 guests. But don’t let the word “small” fool you – it’s not skimping on the magic. The venue will still feature the iconic Exosphere (the massive exterior LED screen that stares back at you and lights up the sky) and the world’s highest-resolution interior display. Essentially, D.C.’s getting the same immersive, mind-blowing experience, just in a slightly cozier setting.
What does that mean for the city?
For the locals, this is more than just a cool venue coming to town. The project is a massive collaboration involving many companies and local government, aiming to inject over $1 billion annually into the local economy. We’re also looking at about 4,750 permanent jobs once the doors open, plus another 2,500 jobs just to get it done.
Governor Wes Moore called it a move to “bring dreams to life.” And coming from Vegas…we get it. Whether you’re into concert residencies that feel like hallucinations or want to see just how far technology can go, National Harbor might soon be the coolest spot to spend an evening at.
Ready to go? Well, we don’t have a firm opening date yet, but the intent is clear. The Sphere is expanding its family, and Maryland is next in line to host the future.
