As we look ahead to the summer holiday season, anticipating those well-earned days off is a given. However, what if we told you that 2027 is looking even better when it comes to maximizing your PTO in Nevada, and extending your time out of the office? Yes, please – let’s dive in!
Long weekends in 2027 in Nevada

As usual. Nevada residents are looking at a genuine 3-day working week in November, with a whopping 4-day weekend on the cards! Thanks to the Thanksgiving holiday on Thursday, November 25, and Nevada’s unique “Family Day” state holiday that always follows on Friday, you’ll only have to work Monday through Wednesday that week. If you want to hack the system, taking just 3 days of annual leave (November 22–24) will give you a massive 9 days off in a row!
What’s more, the Christmas and New Year period provides another incredible opportunity to stretch your vacation. In 2027, both Christmas Day (December 25) and New Year’s Day 2028 (January 1) fall on a Saturday. According to Nevada state law, when a holiday falls on a Saturday, it is observed on the preceding Friday.
So, if you take just 4 days of annual leave from Monday, December 27, to Thursday, December 30, you’ll get a whopping 10 days off from Friday, December 24, all the way until Sunday, January 2!
Quick note: The Nevada state government determines that if a legal holiday falls on a weekend, an ‘observed’ weekday becomes the official day off for state workers and many private businesses. Your employer does not have to give you paid leave on public holidays, but many traditional Monday-to-Friday jobs do.
