The Sphere is preparing to bring a major upgrade to its wildly successful immersive production. ‘Wizard of Oz 2.0’ is officially set to debut this September, promising an even more thrilling journey into the magical land.
What’s new with the Wizard of Oz at Sphere?
According to Sphere Entertainment Chairman and CEO Jim Dolan, who recently teased the upcoming enhancements, the revamped show will introduce new elements. These will push the boundaries of the venue’s technological capabilities.
The centerpiece transforms the show into a ride experience. Expect a pulse-pounding sequence where the audience will effectively go for a ride with a witch. Additionally, fans can see entirely new kinds of flying monkeys soaring across the venue’s wraparound LED screen.
The upgrade aims to build upon the crazy success of the original ‘Wizard of Oz at Sphere’ production. Since its initial launch, the cinematic experience has been a phenomenal draw. The original iteration reportedly generated up to $2 million a day and swiftly passed major box-office milestones, including over $400 million in total ticket sales.
For both returning fans and first-time visitors who thought the original journey was mind-blowing, this September’s 2.0 update is ready to prove that there truly is no place like the Sphere!
