Good news: the trip from Vegas to L.A. is about to get a whole lot easier. Remember the Brightline West high-speed bullet train we broke ground on here in Nevada back in 2024? Well, it’s officially making moves on the California side, too. If all goes well, the project is on track for a 2029 debut.
What’s happening now?
According to recent reports, crews have officially started pre-construction field work down the I-15 corridor in Southern California. They’re currently doing soil sampling, land surveying, and testing the ground to prep the infrastructure before major construction kicks off.
What does that mean for Vegas locals

Here’s what that means for your weekend beach escapes. The 218-mile, fully electric high-speed rail will run directly from Vegas to Rancho Cucamonga, with a couple of stops in Apple Valley and Hesperia. Once you hit the Rancho Cucamonga station, you’ll be able to easily hop right onto the Metrolink to get into the heart of L.A.
The absolute best part? No more sitting in awful traffic on the I-15 for hours on a Sunday afternoon. These trains are designed to hit speeds up to 200 miles per hour, cutting the trip down to roughly 2 hours end-to-end.
When is the Vegas to L.A. highspeed train launching?
While Brightline West originally aimed for a 2027 launch, the new timeline has service rolling out in late 2029. It’s still a few years out – but for a route that sees millions of road trips a year, seeing actual progress happening means dodging that dreaded weekend California traffic is closer to reality than ever.
