The pancakes received a significant boost in fame after being declared the “Best Pancakes in the U.S.” by Esquire Magazine. This gave them a national reputation beyond their California roots. The secret recipe has remained the same since 1938.
The preparation involves a meticulous, time-consuming process (rumored to take hours) that results in a unique texture: fluffy, airy and moist. They come with grade AA melted butter and boysenberry or maple hot cake syrup. Simple, yet delicious. You can get a short stack or a full one – but be aware, that even the short one is a significantly large portion.
