Nevada has long been a magnet for entrepreneurs, and those seeking a fresh start. However, a new study suggests that things aren’t that…shiny. According to a 2026 report by ConsumerAffairs, Nevada has officially been named the 6th worst state to relocate to this year.

The comprehensive study evaluated all 50 states across 5 core metrics: affordability, safety, economic strength, healthcare and education, and overall quality of life. Nevada revealed a clear contrast between the highest highs and lowest lows.
On the bright side, the state remains a powerhouse for employment and growth – ranking an impressive 10th in the nation for economic strength. Unfortunately, this financial silver lining wasn’t enough to keep us afloat in the overall rankings. Low scores in healthcare, education, safety, and affordability dragged Nevada into the bottom tier. We ended up alongside New Mexico (the worst state to move to, according to the study), Louisiana, and California.
Meanwhile, movers looking for ‘greener grass’ are being pointed toward the Northeast and Mountain West. New Hampshire claimed the #1 spot as the best state for relocation, followed closely by Utah and Idaho.
Why was Nevada ranked so low?

If you’re a young professional or entrepreneur chasing economic opportunity, Nevada’s thriving job market (combined with the perk of having zero state income tax) makes it a highly attractive destination. The state’s 10th-place economic ranking is pretty great,
However, for families prioritizing top-tier public schools, affordable housing, and good healthcare systems, the ConsumerAffairs ranking serves as a warning. Nevada is experiencing severe growing pains as its population expands. The phenomenon is straining public services and housing markets. Until the state can successfully address its infrastructure, education, and healthcare access…we’re gonna be the 6th worst state to move to.
