On April 12, don’t forget to look up! This beautiful Pink Full Moon will be a sight to see – and not just that. It also signifies that spring is officially here. Smell the flowers, take a walk outside, and make space for a new start.
What’s a Pink Moon?
If you’re a fan of sky-gazing and have kept up with other phenomena, you’ve probably noticed that these names are more symbolic than literal. The term Pink Moon refers to the full moon that occurs in April, taking its name from the seasonal bloom of pink wildflowers. It’s also been referred to by names such as the Breaking Ice Moon or Budding Moon. These titles come from Native American and European traditions, inspired by the themes of spring’s renewal. The Anglo-Saxons, on the other hand, connected this moon to Easter and named it Egg Moon.
Is this a Supermoon?
No, the full moon that can be observed this week is a Micromoon, because it’s near the point in its orbit where it is farthest from Earth. Usually, a Micromoon is smaller than a Supermoon, and this will probably be the case with this Pink Moon. However, that’s not always the case. When a Micromoon appears close to the horizon, it may even appear larger than a Supermoon. That’s due to an optical illusion!
