There’s so much happening in Las Vegas, you may be finding it hard to keep up. Well let this be a helpful guide to some of the most interesting pieces of news about the Super Bowl that may have slipped your radar.
1. Tiesto has dropped out of his Super Bowl LVIII performance, and Kaskade has taken his spot
Tiesto was set to be the Super Bowl’s first ever ‘in-game DJ’ which he had been preparing for for months, but unfortunately, due to a personal family emergency, he had to step down. Hours later, the NFL announced that Kaskade would take over as the pregame and in-game DJ for Super Bowl LVIII.
“As a kid who grew up in Chicago watching the NFL Super Bowl every year with my family this chance to actually be part of it is absolutely mind blowing,” Kaskade said.
2. Guy Fieri’s Flavortown Tailgate is going to be the biggest on the Strip, featuring special guests like Diplo and Flava Flav
Set behind the LINQ and the High Roller, this free tailgate party is set to host 20,000 people. Guy Fieri’s Flavortown Tailgate is set to be the biggest tailgate party of the year with 25 ‘Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives’ restaurant pop ups — Guy’s dishes of course — and installations by Guy. The event is set to be part food festival and part music festival with performances by Diplo, Dustin Lynch, and Flava Flav.
3. This Las Vegas chapel is giving away free weddings to couples with named Travis and Taylor
If you’re a couple ready to get married and your names are Travis and Taylor, then do we have great news for you. In lieu of all the global Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce relationship chatter, Las Vegas Chapel of Flowers is offering a special deal for anyone who wants to get married during Super Bowl Weekend. The chapel’s CEO, Donne Kerestic, said, “If your name is Taylor and you’d like to get married to your partner Travis after the big game, this is your chance to score a free Vegas wedding!” Plus, he’s got a special aisle lined up for Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce themselves, if they want to take it.
4. 1,000 private jets are expected to fly in Vegas for Super Bowl weekend
The Super Bowl Weekend is looking to be the biggest sports event in recent Vegas history, and maybe the worst for the plane. 1,000 private jets are expected to land, according to The New York Times. In total, 450,000 people are expected to attend this historic weekend for sports fans.
5. The Strat will turn into a 1, 149-foot tall tequila bottle
During Super Bowl Weekend, The Strat will turn into a 1, 149-foot tall tequila bottle brought to us by Don Julio. When looking at the bottle of Don Julio 1942, the shape is quite similar. Now Vegas has its own life-sized version, at least until Super Bowl is over. If you’re hanging around the Stratosphere this weekend, you can also get tickets for their viewing party here.
6. Usher will make history as the first independent artist to headline the Super Bowl
Usher first performed at the Super Bowl in 2011 when the Black Eyed Peas brought him out as a special guest and now, he’ll be headlining the stage himself as the event’s first independent artist. Earlier this week, Usher released his new album, ‘Coming Home’ on February 9th as an independent artist.
“This is only the beginning because I launched this album as an independent artist,” he said. “I will be, up until this date, the only independent artist who has ever performed the Super Bowl halftime show. So this is a beginning. This is a new beginning for me.” He also promises to roller skate during the performance. We can’t wait.
7. Room rates have plummeted as we get closer to Super Bowl Weekend
It happened during Formula 1 Weekend when hotel prices skyrocketed and plummeted just days before the big event, and it’s happening again. Room rates have plummeted now that we’re only a couple of days ahead of Super Bowl. From $1,000 to less than $400 per night depending on where you’re looking (Caesars was around $350 and LINQ was priced at $150). If you’re still debating on heading to Vegas, now might be a good time to book.
8. Frito-Lays has a pop-up Cheetos Chapel that one lucky winner can get married in
“You may kiss the bride,” a Chester Cheetah hologram might say if you’re the lucky winner to get officiated at the Frito-Lays Cheetos Chapel. For Super Bowl weekend only, there will be a fun pop-up on the Brooklyn Bridge of New York, New York with Fritos-Lays-inspired tailgate snacks, the aforementioned chapel, and a Flamin’ Hot Limousine perfect for photo-ops. Read more about this fun pop-up here.
We can’t wait to see what this weekend will have in store for Las Vegas, so keep an eye out for huge headlines in Sin City.
