After 5 years, a classic is back. The return of Lotus of Siam to its original location is massive news for the Vegas food scene. After closing its doors in 2021, the landmark institution – which first established itself at the Commercial Center in 1999 – is finally back at 953 East Sahara Avenue. They’re currently serving dinner Wednesday through Sunday from 5 to 10 PM, with a limited menu – and you have to make your reservation now.
What happened to Lotus of Siam?

During the years the original space was closed, Lotus of Siam continued to serve its food at its Flamingo Road location and a newer outpost at the Red Rock Resort. However, according to locals and foodies, it simply didn’t taste the same. After all, there’s nothing quite like the original.
As founding chef Saipin Chutima (James Beard Award winner) said in a statement, “This reopening is a tribute to where we started and how far we’ve come. We’ve reawakened the original space with new energy, from the menu to the bar, while staying true to the flavors and traditions that have long defined Lotus of Siam.”
This restaurant isn’t just a beloved staple; it’s culinary royalty. Lotus of Siam has long been a popular spot, perfectly representing how Vegas has fantastic ethnic foods from all over the world thanks to the diverse populations that call the city home.
An Anthony Bourdain favorite
Its reputation exploded nationally when the late Anthony Bourdain visited. His companion, Chef Jet Tila, called Lotus of Siam “the best Thai restaurant in Vegas by far” and “one of the best Thai restaurants in America.”
Fans of Bourdain will remember the iconic visit, where the 2 dove deep into the restaurant’s specialty: Northern Thai food. In fact, they specifically mention: “you don’t do Pad Thai here.”
If you’re heading to the newly reopened location, you might want to recreate their legendary meal, which included:
- Nam Prik (chili dip)
- Nam Khao Tod (a puffed crispy rice salad with preserved pork sausage)
- Jackfruit Salad
- Pork Curry (with garlic and ginger)
- Khao Soi
At the begging of the Vegas Parts Unknown episode, Anthony says: “In Vegas, there’s winners and losers – And God knows, I’ve been both”. The reopening of Lotus of Siam’s original dining room is the perfect excuse to experience (or re-experience) some of the best Thai cuisine in the country – it’s a winning experience.
